The West Euston Time Bank

Speaking Out

January 2006 – May 2006

West Euston Time Bank received funding from the Community Safety and Drugs Community chest to co-ordinate an intergenerational drama project to raise awareness on drugs and crime.

Alicia Kielty led the weekly workshops with the girls and from their hard work and effort they created their very own piece of live theatre, wrote and performed a rap and together made all their own stage costume and props! This is how they earned their credits.

Meanwhile across the road from the Samuel Lithgow Youth Centre, aspiring actors from the Third Age project created their very own sketch on drugs which was filmed and included in the final performance with the girls’ piece.

The final show was called Haunted House and the girls invited all their peers as well as parents to come and see what they had achieved.

The audience were on tender hooks to their gripping drama!

As their reward we took them on a theatre trip to Polka theatre to see ‘Child of the Divide’ and had a much enjoyed meal at Nandos in Wimbledon .

Feedback

"Well done, Friday night was brilliant! As you know I've not been around long but I was really impressed with the 'Haunted House' activity. The girls obviously enjoyed performing and the audience (mostly boys) were completely enthralled...quite a few parents turned up and they also seemed to enjoy the proceedings.   My thanks to Time bank and the other workers involved."
